18 - 05 - 2012 - New Koningsplanter dual purpose planter
Last week a complete new Koningsplanter was put into operation in the Provence of Groningen in the Northern part of The Netherlands. The machine is equipped with 10 pieces of the famous precision planting units which were initially developed for planting onion sets and minitubers.
In order to reduce the population of nematodes in potato fields, a catch crop of potatoes can be planted. The technology is that crop will attract nematodes and the crop is desiccated around June 21st so that a maximum amount of nematodes is destroyed. In this way a year earlier potatoes van be grown on the same field. For this purpose, the machine is equipped to plant 10 lines of potatoes on a bed of 3 meters wide.
This model Koningsplanter can be rebuilt in order to plant 2 rows on 75 cm of minitubers a well. Koning is the market leader in minituber planters. The machines are mainly exported out of The Netherlands to countries with large scale minituber production.
